We Need More Surprises

Nothing delights me more than a tiny surprise. Take this classic, standard issue US Navy deck shirt. There aren't many things that stay more rigidly to the prescribed than uniforms. These cuffs ...

And yet, tucked away ...

Why can't this be mine? Not that I'm really into barebreasted mermaids, but I adore the spirit of the thing! This sailor had surprises literally up his sleeves.

Brilliant! If they made a version with a giant squid inside the sleeve, I'd proudly don the uniform. -X

THAT IS AWESOME!!! and I actually think it's rather sweet. For some reason (not barebreased mermaids) it reminds me of my grandfather - he loved having little surprises in unexpected places. In his flower bed, for instance, he liked to put plastic snakes and godzilla figurines peaking out from under the leaves.

Here's to the unexpected!

Oh, and my day is made. Thank you. This is like the seafaring version of the secret pin-up necktie. All business meeting on the outside, but unfold the end, peek inside and you're in for a treat with a little less tail. Presumably.

Insane. Makes me want to start embroidering all the interiors of my shirt sleeves IMMEDIATELY. Love your blog banner, too. So chic. xx

Thanks for commenting on Nick Haus! I look forward to seeing what you have to say. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking Anonymous comments -- too much spam, too much vituperative. Come out from behind the curtain, ye nasty Anonymous! Everyone else, please, I love to hear from you.
